Forging Through Failures. Blog #263.

There are days when I work at moving through my day but I seem to continue to find roadblocks in my way and failures mounting.  I find the easiest task that would normally take me little effort is thrown off by the slightest hiccup.  The big tasks are difficult to start and my eyes want to close the moment I begin.

Getting up on the wrong side of the bed might be an old saying, but it often applies to my not-so-successful days on the job.  A very important part of moving forward through failures is starting with the right mindset.

No matter the amount of sleep or disruptions that have occurred throughout the night I start my day with,  “This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.” (Psalm 118:24, English Standard Bible) Followed by a thank you, Jesus, and prayers regarding whatever pops into my mind.

Throughout my morning routine, I communicate with my friend, Jesus.  When I am feeling sorry for myself, he gives me a kick in the pants.  If I am unsure of something, my answer normally becomes clear through the dialog in my mind.  As I walk through my issues it normally becomes obvious where I went wrong.  Always thanking Jesus for my redirection and my progress.

When my mindset is based on love, being grateful, and thankful, I find it much easier to laugh at and learn from my failures.  Somedays it seems like I can’t do anything right, but when I am able to thank Jesus for getting me through each road block I start to develop a better outlook and am able to find humor in my less-than-perfect days.

When I find myself working through a specific problem or issue I always start by evaluating myself.  Here is the issue, what can I do differently to make the situation run more smoothly next time?

Prayer and mindful conversations with myself normally bring my faults to the surface.  I find that whatever is bothering me about the situation, normally starts within me.  Next, I find a way to eliminate that issue from my behavior.  The bottom line is if I am frustrated about what someone else is doing, it is time to take a look and see if I am doing the same thing, too.

No matter my failure my go-to is Jesus.  I have faith and am thankful that through prayer I will be led to a solution.  Most often the solution starts from within myself and with forgiveness

This reminds me of something that I do that started with a prayer my youngest daughter helped compose at age 3-4. She and her older sister and I used to snuggle on my bed, read, and then say our prayers together every night until they were in early teens.

We would say, “Dear Jesus, thank you for this wonderful day and please let tomorrow be another wonderful one. Please bless mommy and daddy and…” Our list went on. As they grew older, I tried to encourage them to be thankful for specific things, and to start asking for strength or peace or wisdom… As I do.

I have a little prayer rock that I got from somebody more than 20 years ago, at least. It’s wrapped in some beautiful little fabric and tied with a bow And I keep it on my bed during the day and on the floor beside my bed at night to help me remember every night as I’m getting in bed to say my prayers and in the morning as I make my bed to start the day in prayer as well.

Remembering to start each day in thankful praise and asking for strength in guidance does make a big difference in your outlook and approach to the day. The same for when we close our eyes at night, remembering to be thankful.
