Toss The Assumptions. Blog #293.

Every so often I need a wake-up call regarding assumptions.  Similarly to judgments, I try to avoid assuming anything, but it happens. Most of the time I know I am making an assumption before I even finish my comment or thought.

Why do I assume that I know what’s happening or how someone is feeling?  When one sees an unfortunate situation the mind often goes to the negative.  But what if the person was not looking at the situation as a negative?

What if the event was considered a stepping stone to the next adventure?  Or maybe a lesson that needed to be learned prior to achieving the next opportunity.  One might not even see the negative in the situation but view the event as a normal life process.

Over the past year, there has been a central theme to most conversations that I encounter.  That is how alone I will be as both my girls forge off to college.  I could choose to look at the situation from that angle.  However, Jesus has got my back and he’s got my next opportunity right around the corner. I don’t know what that will be, but I’m excited.

I’m excited because I know Jesus is with me and I know he will guide me.  I hope that I will see all the signals leading me in the right direction, but I know and have faith that I will be diverted if I’m off track.

I have been so excited for my girls to depart. I’m not excited that I won’t see them every day but they’re in my heart. I don’t need them in my house.  They love me they love Jesus and Jesus has got their back. Jesus has your back too, if you so choose to let the opportunity come into your life.

One would assume that being a single mom for 17 years after my late husband passed away, I would be distraught that my two girls are leaving at the same time.  Add to that my mother who lived with us recently passed away.  However, I am thrilled for my girls and want to share in their joy. They are ready to fly.

They have survived many ups and downs in their life all of which have prepared them for their future. I don’t know what obstacles they are going to face, but I  know they can get through them.  If they choose to take the right perspective and leave any assumptions behind.

Tossing all assumptions aside, I am ready to celebrate the next adventure and look forward to watching our young adults fly!

Thanks for the reminder- Life on earth is a continuous loop of opportunities and events and growth… And as its been said, everything that seems like an ending is really also a beginning.

And you and your girls are ready for this one!!!
