Excited About Church? Blog #384.

As I walked into Cooper City Church, I immediately looked at the person who invited me and smiled.  Using nonverbal communication, her eyes lit up, telling me, “I told you so.”  I flew in for the weekend to spend time with her and Jesus.

The weekend did not disappoint, but the highlight was the undeniable feeling of the Holy Spirit as you entered this church.  It felt like the Holy Spirit opened the door and greeted us.  As we moved closer, it drew us in and ignited inner peace.

Every person who engaged with us, I counted five, carried a genuine smile full of compassion and authenticity.  The halls were bustling and full of activity.  There was excitement and energy as people connected in the hallways.

I was intrigued to see if the energy from the Holy Spirit would gradually dim throughout the service.  Not to worry, the worship service delivered.  No matter your preference in worship, soft and traditional or rocking the roof off, the worship team somehow satisfied both.  The Holy Spirit must have approved because the presence only grew stronger.

The true test for me is the sermon.  I have great difficulty staying focused, finding my mind drifting to various unrelated topics.  Not this day at Cooper City Church, I was engaged in the topic of Grace.  The building was activated and alive with love.  The feeling of the Holy Spirit stayed with us as we exited the place of worship.

I left church feeling energized and alive, equipped to tackle the chaos and noise of life.  Churches have an important role in our communities.  Think of the unity we would experience if each of us carried the Holy Spirit with us daily.

I am here to encourage us all to be the church, myself included.  Invite in the Holy Spirit.  Whether you walk through the doors to engage in fellowship and praise Jesus or you live your life with love and compassion, be the church.  Be a place the Holy Spirit wants not only to visit but to live.
