Arguably one of the shining stars of the Olympics was Alysa Liu, not only for her athleticism and artistry, but for authentically being herself. As one watched the Olympic Games unfold, it was evident that a movement was developing among the athletes. A movement that was positive, unified, grateful, and joyful for having an opportunity to live out their dreams.
I have watched the Olympics throughout my lifetime, but I have never seen one athlete change the perspective of so many people simply by authentically being themselves. Alysa accomplished this, and the world saw her joy the moment she entered the village.
Among the pressures that being an Olympian carries, Alysa has found peace. She has found the recipe, the secret sauce, for allowing herself to enjoy the process and accept the results. She has allowed herself to live with love. I’m not speaking of romantic love or the love of family and friends; she has found the way to live her life with love, compassion, kindness, and joy. All of which allows her the opportunity to live in peace.
As Dr. Issam Nemeh would say, Jesus can’t resist someone who lives with love. During the pressures of the Olympics, Alysa never allowed anyone or anything to steal her joy. She remained consistent in finding peace because she never let go of living with love.
She lives by example, and her joy rippled throughout the Olympic village. Newscasters, social media posts, and print media all reported on the electrifying love that she embodied and the peace that surrounded her.
As Alysa‘s joy spread throughout the village and world, others joined her movement. It was rather difficult to be ungrateful in her presence. She was inclusive, compassionate, kind, joyful, and full of love for life and people. Full of passion for her sport.
Instead of fearing the massive Olympic village, she embraced it. Eager to show her love of skating to all those watching.
Alysa Liu has been a lesson in finding peace, joy, and spreading love to those around her. Her love and joy are contagious.
Mother Teresa said, “ I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples.”
One person leading by example with love and joy sent a ripple through the entire Olympic village and world. Finding her peace, changing the dynamics of sports, and being authentically her.
