Unity is what we hope to achieve, but are we doing anything to promote unity, or are we talking about unity without action?

How does one promote unity?  What can I do to support the efforts of unity among all people?  What is it that hinders our ability to be unified? 

With all the talk of unification, I find myself taking a deep personal evaluation.  I am questioning how I react to different circumstances and looking at ways to improve.

Tensions are high among many of us.  It is a time of uncertainty and major changes.  In order to have unity, there has to be love in our hearts for others.

What is it that I am doing to promote love among those who cross my path?  It is a decision to have a mindset of love.  It is important to continue to strive to love others equally.  We are all equal in God’s eyes.   

There are times when I look at what I just said or did and am disappointed in my contribution to unifying those around me.  But in those times I also see hope that I will choose love in the future. 

I admit that I was a bit skeptical regarding having love in my heart for all.  At first, it was difficult for me to understand how it is possible to love equally.  For me, it was a matter of broadening my very narrow definition of love. 

I began by looking at things around me and choosing kindness.  I made a decision to use my smile more frequently and assume that people are good.  The positive perspective allowed me to see the love in my heart. 

That doesn’t mean that I agree with everyone or that I like everything about people, but I do have love in my heart.  The true test for me is when I am hurt.  I realized I had achieved having love in my heart for all when I could overlook something hurtful and see value in the person with no feelings of hate.

When we start to think more about ourselves than others, unity dissolves.  As we increase our ability to love unity blossoms.

I find joy in thinking about our future.  I am not fearful because I have faith that we will uncover unity.  I am hopeful that people will choose love over anger or fear.  I am looking forward to working together in unity to move forward into the future.
