Genuine Compassion. Blog #256.

Over the last few months, I have learned a great deal about compassion. I have always known the importance and I’ve always had it in my heart, but when pushed to my limit, am I able to find compassion?

While I was reading The Book Of JOY, by Dalai Lama and Desmond Tutu, there was one concept that continued to be forefront in my mind.  It was a description of how the Dalai Lama gave people his complete attention by locking hands with the individual and looking into their eyes with kindness.  His genuine compassion made people feel at peace and loved.

Compassion is something important to me and I attempt to carry it with me as I interact with others.  What I strive for is unconditional compassion.  No matter the circumstances I want to approach it with love and kindness.

When I am pushed to my limit knowing no reasonable solution is in sight, I remind myself that love is the answer.  Whatever the issue, it is not worth a fight.  It takes focus to remain compassionate in these situations.

When I don’t stay focused nothing is solved, things don’t go right and everything seems to get worse.  The same thing happens when my love is forced.  People know when your kindness is fake.

However, when I use genuine compassion, everything seems to work out right.  I say a quick prayer, thank Jesus for being with me, and focus on love.

I think about having genuine love and compassion radiate from my being.  Knowing that no matter what challenge is in front of me, I will respond with kindness.

Compassion changes the dynamics of a frustrating situation.  One can see the aggression move to acceptance and the acceptance move to peace.

I’m not at the point where without thinking I handle all situations with love.  But I know when my body feels stressed or out of control that I need to flip the switch to compassion and love.  Trusting that Jesus will help me work through the issue if my heart is genuine.
