Weeding TIme. Blog #279.

When I first moved to our current home, there was an abundance of weeds overtaking all the beautiful plants.  The beginning of spring always opens the door to the growth of new weeds.  After that first year, I learned to clear them early by digging out all the roots.

The more care and attention I gave to the job, the less work I had throughout the summer.  I learned to go out when the ground was damp so that the roots were more easily lifted from the dirt.  My intent is always to let the beautiful greenery shine, not be overshadowed by the huge overgrown weeds.

Homeownership has given me a new understanding of the vast variety of weeds.  We have the little weeds, wide weeds, tall weeds, thick weeds, prickly weeds, and of course the beautiful weeds.   If you want to rid the ground of any of these weeds, you have to get to the root of the problem.

The issues in our life are similar, if we simply pick at the surface of our problems they are likely to return.  Often bigger, stronger, and more difficult than when the issue first developed. But if we get to the root of the problem and figure out how to best resolve the issue, stress and worry diminish and we become more productive.

I don’t take on my problems alone, I freely share them with Jesus.  I pray away my worries and listen for guidance and direction on how to solve the issues.  The answers are always there, sometimes outside noise makes it difficult for me to hear.  Once I filter out all the distractions, I have to make a decision to give control to Jesus and follow the path.

If I give total control over to Jesus, it is like pulling the entire root out of the soil, the problem is gone.  When the soil is dry and hard, it is difficult to pull the entire root out of the soil.  The weed returns in a few weeks.  When I ask for Jesus’ help but still take control of my issues, the problems keep rising up just like the weeds.

Once we identify issues in our life if we tackle them one at a time looking for the root of the problem, the issues become more manageable.  We start to begin to understand how to either take out the root of the problem or how to manage alongside the weeds.

How can we live our lives and still not be overgrown by the weeds?  For me, Jesus is my full-time weed whacker.
