Reset. Blog #385.

Spring allows us a beautiful opportunity to push the reset button and start anew.  For the past few years, I have been doing the bare minimum outside, while I tended to things that were more urgent and a higher priority inside our home.

This past weekend, the yard received a thorough and much-needed reset.  Although my body continues to feel the joys of the manual labor, my mind has renewed energy from a weekend of fresh air, task completion, and beautification.

The same is true with the inside of our house.  Every season provides an opportunity for renewal and a deep cleaning, but spring seems to connect me to nature.  We prepare our windows, porches, decks, and grills just as the sounds and colors of nature come alive.

As I get my house in order, I too must evaluate myself.  Are my priorities reflected in my everyday life?  Jesus is my number one priority.  Am I living in the moment, able to respond to opportunities as they arise?

For me, prayer opens the door to connecting with Jesus on an ongoing basis.  When I feel myself getting distracted, I again engage with Jesus.  When Jesus is first in my life, I carry inner peace with me.  As soon as I feel stress, I move to prayer and realign with Jesus.

Are love and compassion reflected in my words and actions?  I made a decision to learn to address all situations with love and compassion.  When I approach life with love, I am better able to see things from different perspectives.  Stress and anger are signs that I need to stop, pray, and refocus on love.

Am I able to forgive and pray for everyone?  Being able to forgive and pray for the person is an essential step for me.  If I have any hesitation in doing that, I need to reset and focus on love.

Each season provides us a little push to reset and get our “house” in order.
