One of the things I love about thinking of others is that it directs me away from dwelling on my own issues. It takes the spotlight off what is going on in my life and brings a new perspective to my thoughts.
When I think of others compassion seems to rise to the surface and brings out qualities that are positive to both the people I am thinking about and to me.
As I was compiling thoughts for this blog I saw a post on Facebook from one of my “friends”. Typically I pause to read the posts from this particular person because the posts are thoughtful and inspiring. The posts encourage people and it is clear that this person is often thinking of others.
I am very fortunate because the posts that fill my Facebook feed are positive and uplifting. The images and quotes posted are heartwarming, not hurtful.
Regarding Facebook, I have only experienced a few hurtful posts, but I certainly am aware of the problems that social media platforms can create. I am encouraged that my “friends” are thinking of others as they prepare their posts.
It is beautiful when one can make others feel special or appreciated. It doesn’t take much effort to make someone’s day by showing them some attention. It might be as simple as a smile, wave, or saying hello. Maybe it is a phone call, a message, or including them in a gathering.
The bonus of thinking of others is that it makes me feel good and puts me in the right mindset to continue to serve those around me. I pray for opportunities to be helpful to others. Kindness is contagious and good for the soul.
