Not To Be Forgotten. Blog #274.

Over time we often forget some of the details of our lives.  Some things become easier over time as our memories fade.  Other things are enhanced by a gentle reminder.

Monuments often provide a reminder of important things that have happened in history.  As we view the art our minds focus on the events of that time period.  It is a gentle reminder of history; a person, event, or era.

As I was listening to the Daily Audio Bible the reading touched on the importance of incorporating reminders into our lives.  Things that will help us reference important personal events and events in history.

This particular example was a rock monument that was developed at the time of the crossing of the Jordan River.  Jesus wanted to make sure there was a visual reminder of the events that took place, a gentle reminder that, “All things are possible through God.”

Similarly, many of us have traditions that we hand down from generation to generation.  A way that we remember and honor family and friends.  Some people document through journaling, while others tell stories to keep the memories alive.

We need subtle reminders in our lives to bring us back when we are off course or have momentarily forgotten our priorities.  One example is inner peace

Once you have experienced inner peace it is a feeling not easily forgotten.  However, the pressures of this world can quickly throw us off track, tempt us with stress and worry, and steal our peace.  If we are not reminding ourselves of our priorities, that inner peace will be lost.

The same is true with most aspects of our lives.  For me, my faith is my priority and is not to be forgotten. Sometimes I need to take a step back and make a mental note to remind myself to concentrate on what is most important.  Using prayer I bring my focus back to Jesus.
