Faith is the priority that brings meaning to my life. Faith provides a framework that when nurtured blossoms into a way of life and fosters hope.
After reading the book, Miracles Every Day, by Maura Poston Zagrans, I decided to make a few changes in my daily routine. The first change was making a point of thanking Jesus throughout the day. I had always been grateful and thankful for the life I led, but I had not specifically given credit to Jesus.
At first, I focused on thanking Jesus. Silently, I gave thanks for everything. Some examples would be a successful trip to the grocery store, safe travels, unexpected opportunities, the kids having a good day at school, and completing work on time. It was a change in mindset from being thankful and grateful to giving thanks to Jesus.
Focusing my gratitude on Jesus quickly became a part of my daily routine. Next, I began to focus on love. First, I had to redefine the term love. My former definition of love included family and friends.
I now challenge myself to look at all situations from the perspective of love. When I feel myself getting irritated about something or someone, I immediately change my perspective to one of love. I found that looking at things with understanding, kindness, and an open mind significantly altered my interactions with people in a positive way.
When you live life with love it opens the door for forgiveness. It also opens the door to Jesus.
The third thing that gave my life more meaning was being more prayerful. After reading Miracles Every Day I realized the depth of my untapped prayer potential. I made praying a priority in my life.
I don’t worry about having perfect prayers. When someone comes to mind, I pray. If my attention is drawn to a situation, I pray. If someone requests prayers, I pray. I pray and thank Jesus when things are going well. When things are difficult, I thank Jesus for the solution before I know that one exists.
Training myself not to be judgmental is the fourth thing that has given my life more meaning. For me, this is a work in progress. I am normally good at stopping any judgmental thoughts, but my goal is to eliminate those thoughts.
It is not our job to judge, but to love. As I change my thought process to love I find that compassion surfaces, I give thanks to Jesus and pray abundantly.
