Expectations. Blog #268.

Expectations are defined as strong beliefs that something will happen in the future.  Those expectations can lead us to be hopeful but they can also create issues.  Problems arise when we get hopeful based on flawed logic or assumptions.

Most of us form expectations. Some of us do a better job than others in managing those expectations and creating a more balanced life.

Social media, print media, advertisements, and our circle of influence all play an enormous role in how people today set their expectations.  We think we are making decisions based on what is real, but how much of what we see is real?

The expectation is that things are as we see but think about the filters that we use daily.  Many of those filters are what we use as standards for ourselves.  It is difficult to watch those expectations fill people with anxiety, depression, feelings of low self-esteem, and self-worth.

The world has progressed in many wonderful ways due to the internet, but our expectations of reality have become warped.  I enjoy quickly staying in touch with people on social media that I would not normally see.  Problems start when the perfect photos of smiling people in all the right places start to affect my self-esteem and self-worth.

It’s hard to walk away from the expectations of the world. But when you live with love and view from the heart, it’s much easier to manage expectations.  Outward appearance becomes meaningless and character is revealed.

Through prayer, love, and faith. I am able to walk a path without being hindered by expectations. There are times when I have expectations in mind, but I am always ready to rid myself of those expectations and follow my heart.

Prayer and love help me combat being sucked in by unrealistic expectations of society.  I stay focused on the heart and look for opportunities to find my path. Putting love as a priority and seeking guidance through prayer.

Expectations are all around us, but with the right tools we are able to follow our hearts.
