Like Family. Blog #194.

In most companies where I have been employed, I would consider the people I worked with a second family.  A group of people supported one another and worked toward a common goal with concern for both the company and the individuals that make up the team.

We may not have been friends, but we respected each other’s talents, utilized each other’s strengths, and genuinely supported each other’s accomplishments.

As a team, we may not agree all the time, but we have each other’s best interests in mind, all working toward a common goal.  When people were no longer supportive of each other, I knew it was time for me to change employers.

Have you ever been in a situation where nothing about the situation or the way the situation is portrayed is accurate from your perspective?  Where words that were spoken were not reality, or at least not a reality for the majority of those involved.  How do we become so far removed that we can’t see the perspective of reality?

I am perplexed at how many times I hear the words, “like family” stated, but the perspective I see is much different.  I begin to wonder if “like family” has become a catchphrase used to paint a loving picture in people’s minds.

I would consider most of my circle of influence “like family”.  People who genuinely care, respect, and value me as a person and know that I return the love.

It’s important to make sure you take an interest in those you love.  But I would also add that it is important to have love in your heart for those around you.

I have love in my heart for family and “like family,” but I have learned to have love in my heart for all.  That does not mean everyone is “like family,” but it does mean that I look for the good.

I am able to dislike things that people do, but I no longer connect those actions with not liking the person.  Having love in your heart for all puts a positive perspective on life.

It is through prayer that I am able to separate the actions of others and the ability to see that all are worthy of love.  I love and am responsible for my family.  Those who are “like family” also bring and receive much love.

It is through faith that I see the value of approaching all others with a loving heart.  Prayer in combination with faith, hope, and love brings a welcome perspective to my everyday life.
