Love What You Do. Blog #232.

Some time ago I heard a quote from Radhika Reddy, “You are not always going to be able to do what you love, but you can love what you do.”  For most of my life, I have loved what I have done.  I find something that makes me happy and I keep myself focused on enjoying what I do.

Many times it is the people that I am with that allow me to love what I do.  I don’t remember saying yes or no to a job because of the product or service.  My focus was always on the people who I would be working with every day.

The strength of my faith has allowed me to journey down paths I would not have otherwise traveled.  Doing what I love is serving Jesus.

Often it was the connection with the people I have met during the interview process that helped me determine if I was on the right path in regard to employment.  Several times I wanted to accept a position that was not intended for me.  Each time there has been a person who has created a roadblock signaling to me that this was not my path.

Many people go through life not allowing themselves to be happy and love what they do.  Most of us can think of things that we don’t enjoy doing.  The key is to avoid focusing on the negative.  I am aware of the issues, but choose to love what I do.

One of my daughters has a part-time job at an equestrian center.  Every day she shovels out the stalls. Often the horses leave more waste as she is in the stall cleaning.

Earlier this week she commented on how she loves her job.  She laughed as she evaluated her job responsibilities and her level of job satisfaction.  “How can I love my job so much when all I do is clean up waste all day?”

Of course, she knew the answer to the question.  She loves to be around the horses, the people are very kind, and she is gaining knowledge and experience.  There are plenty of negative things about the job, but she chooses to see the positive.  She loves what she does!

If I am frustrated with what I am doing, I will likely start looking for my next challenge, but while I am involved I find things to like about the situation.  I pray for direction and choose to give my worries to Jesus.  There is no reason to be stressed because there is no problem too challenging for Jesus.

I have been very fortunate in my life to be able to focus on the positive.  I am grateful to love what I do.
