This past week I went to an orientation for The Power of Joy an organization inspired by The Book of Joy by Dalai Lama and Desmond Tutu with Douglas Abrams. I am completely on board with living a life of joy and spreading joy. Personally, my joy stems from my faith.
At first, my interest was piqued by social media. The Power of Joy caught my attention because I strongly believe when we redefine love our perspective changes and opens up a world of peace, unity, and so much more. If your heart is open to love and serve those around you, joy will follow.
I watched a short clip from The Book of Joy and clicked my way through the Power of Joy website. I was intrigued. A few weeks later I received an invite to attend one of the Power of Joy orientations. Still piquing my interest, I accepted.
I encourage you if you are local (Cleveland area) to attend an orientation with the Power of Joy. I also invite you to read The Book of Joy which challenges us to remove the boundaries we have set up regarding religion and to look beyond ourselves to serve others. One may not agree with all that is stated in the book, but I believe most will come out with some direction on how to lead a life of joy.
Both Dalai Lama and Desmond Tutu have overcome significant adversity. They were able to see beyond the loss and find joy in what they gained from their experiences. According to the Dalai Lama, joy changes the way we see the world. (p 194). Desmond Tutu talks about, “… moving from counting your burdens to counting your blessings…” (p 243)
They encourage all of us to take the focus off our problems by focusing on others. Abrams concludes, “Bringing joy to others is the fastest way to experience joy oneself” (p.261)
When you find joy you are better able to spread joy to others. Serving others, according to the authors, is the true secret to joy.
