Do you feel ready for the unexpected? Sometimes we allow stress and worry to get in the way, particularly when we allow the outside world to guide our every moment.
There are things I do to help me be prepared for the unexpected. Although it might be nice if life were consistent daily, we need to be ready for the unknown.
Living in the moment allows me to ebb and flow daily as life brings new challenges. That doesn’t mean I have abandoned the future or don’t have dreams or goals, but it does mean I’m open to whatever happens in the moment.
I know my priorities and have broad goals, but I don’t live in the past or future. My intent each day is to accomplish certain tasks yet be open to opportunities that present themselves in the moment.
If I schedule myself out by the minute, there’s a good chance that I will miss opportunities to serve. Of course, when one is at work one might be under the management of others. However, I attempt to keep my schedule flexible to be ready for opportunities and to be willing to accommodate a change in plans. I am careful to not see change as a roadblock.
As I live in the moment, I am also utilizing prayer as a guide to know the difference between being thrown off course and an opportunity. Lord, if this is important to you, please show me the way. I continue to move through my day, knowing that my path will open if that is the intent.
When we are open to the unexpected Jesus will create a path for us to follow. The details will unfold and if needed assistance will be provided. The kids will suddenly have rides to their activities, the project deadline will be extended, and we have no more excuses but to follow our path.
Stress and worry are not an issue when we surrender to Jesus. Living in the moment and being prayerful regarding our choices leads us to unexpected moments to serve.
