Appreciation Of Others. Blog #409.

As we approach the holiday season, I like to remind myself to be appreciative of those around me.  If, for some reason, appreciation is hard to find, then my go-to is attention wrapped with kindness and love

At times, we are pushed, stressed, and anxiety-filled due to expectations of the season.  That might stem from what others ask of us, or it might be pressure we put on ourselves.  Either way, it often takes patience as we move closer to the celebrations.

I use prayer to center myself and navigate through the holidays.  Asking Jesus to show me what’s important and to help me let go of the things that are not a priority.

What’s important to me is that the reason for the season is celebrated and recognized.  I align my expectations with that priority in mind.  I have learned that rarely does everything turn out perfectly, but with appreciation, love, and a sense of humor, often things are much better received.

It’s crucial to take appreciation with us daily.  If we take the time to understand what is important to others, they will feel appreciated.  Even if the application is not acknowledged, it is usually noticed.

Appreciation can be as simple as recognizing the anxiety of the person behind me in line and allowing them to move in front of me.  When someone is doing their job well, I am appreciative and will give them specific encouragement.  Daily, I focus on living with a perspective of appreciation.

For me, the two most important things about appreciation are that it is sincere and meaningful.  My appreciation is genuine and specific.  There are times when I’m appreciative of people showing up.  Most often, I’m appreciative of their attitude, work ethic,  intentions, expertise, thoughtfulness, or compassion

Sincere and meaningful appreciation will illuminate the joy and the reason for the season.
