Distractions. Blog #448.

If I’m not careful, my entire day can be taken over, stolen from what it could’ve been, simply from distractions.  Letting every hiccup become a mountain, allowing interruptions throughout my day to overcome my time and energy.

It is my choice to allow distractions or to set them aside.  For me to make a good decision regarding my time, I have to know my priorities for the day.

I have a list visible with the most important things I need to accomplish.  As distractions flow through my day, I have to decide if I can allow the distraction and still complete my tasks.

If the answer is yes, I still have to determine if the distraction falls within the parameters of my priorities.  I say a quick prayer asking for guidance.  Is this distraction an opportunity?  If not, I quickly move through the distraction without allowing it to stop my momentum.

Distractions can be placed in our lives as obstacles, but we can choose to redirect distractions to opportunities.  If I allow the distraction to overcome me, I have a problem.  But if I choose to find the light in the distraction and share that light with others, the distraction has become an opportunity.

There are times when I have a deadline that I must meet, and distraction after distraction starts to occur.  When I realize the distractions are trying to take me off course, I am better able to move through the distractions, put them to the side, and finish my task.

Other times distractions are put in my path to wake me up to an opportunity that I may have otherwise overlooked.  It might be an opportunity to spend time with a friend or my kids, doing something ordinary, yet providing quality conversation or spontaneous joy.

Jesus, lead me through this distraction or show me the opportunity.
