Regaining Peace. Blog #301

I was speaking with someone who was a bit frustrated with a friend who lives life as a follower of Jesus.  This person was given advice to trust in Jesus, and that it will all work out.  Here is the catch.  The friend giving the advice was very worried about something and was not following their own suggestion.  The question was, “How do I help someone who is giving me advice to trust Jesus, but is not trusting Jesus with their own worries?”

Think about how strong we would be as followers of Jesus if we all applied his advice to our lives.  I believe I am leading by example, but am I simply going through the motions and saying the right words, or am I living with unstoppable faith

There are many things we can do to make ourselves believe that we are living our life as a follower of Jesus.    When we are at our lowest and highest points in our lives, are we thanking Jesus?  Are we prayerful not just in times of trouble but throughout our day and life?  When peace leaves our body and stress takes over are we able to flip the switch and pray for direction?  Are we able to give our worries to Jesus?

Yes, the formula is simple, but not easy.  Many of us live our lives in a state of worry.  Worrying about what has happened in the past and what is to come in the future.  I live in the moment.  There is not enough time to stress about everything that has already happened or what might happen.  I pray away those worries to Jesus.

In order to enjoy the moment without worry this is what I do.

  1. When peace leaves my body and stress sets in I stop and pray.
  2. I give my worries to Jesus through prayer and ask for guidance to a solution.
  3. Then I listen.
  4. I move down the paths that present themselves and see if I regain inner peace.
  5. If I do regain peace, I thank Jesus.
  6. If I don’t regain peace, I again give my worries to Jesus and thank him for more direction on how to proceed.
  7. Then I listen.
  8. I repeat until I am living with inner peace.

When you find peace, worry loses its power.  I avoid living in the past or future and stay focused on living in the moment.  Goals and dreams are wonderful, but I choose to leave those in the hands of Jesus.
