Opportunity. Blog #324.

In this world filled with opportunity sometimes we miss all the joy that is around us.  Chaos clutters our minds and we are overcome with stress and anxiety.  But we do have the choice to see the good and to be grateful for all the little things that make life worth living.

The text that says, “I love you.”
Retrieving the newspaper, trash can, or mail on the way to the house.

The call from a neighbor or friend checking in to say, “Hello.”
The sun shining brightly on a beautiful afternoon.
The car starting up on a chilly winter morning.
Someone taking the time to check something because it didn’t seem to be right.
     A good friend, a good movie, a good book…

Simple opportunities that make our lives a little brighter.  Before meeting my husband I missed many moments that life presented.  I was positive, happy, and serving others, but I overlooked much of nature’s beauty.

Moving through life at a rapid pace I neglected to live in the moment, always reaching for the next goal.  Never fully appreciating the present, I was always looking toward the future.  My late husband fully appreciated the present.  Slowing me down to enjoy all the opportunities around us.

I feel like he prepared me for how I live now, in the moment.  I don’t worry about the past or think much about the future.  Each day I am present in life ready to serve where needed.  Yes, certain tasks are accomplished, but I am open to opportunities.

I have learned to place great value in the moment.  Respecting people’s time, yet open to altering my path.  I don’t think much about what I like or don’t like, but rather what it is that I am intended to do.  That path always proves to be far greater than I could imagine.

When we stop focusing on the negative, opportunity starts to present itself.  The issues will likely still exist, but we begin to function in a manner that allows us to move through the difficulties with our eyes on the light.  Solutions begin to surface and we see all the opportunity before us.
