Living life with love for others and having good intentions are important ingredients when striving for a unified world. Sometimes it is difficult to unveil the integrity of those who enter our circle of influence.
Not that I am naive in thinking that everyone has good intentions, but I choose to react with love in the hope that compassion will prevail.
Recently I received a phone call from an established person with whom I did not know. The conversation went fine and I was grateful. There were a few things said that alerted me to think, that was a bit odd. The call ended and I did not think anything more about the interaction.
Later that night I was sent a text from a different person, “I received a strange voicemail and I don’t think the person knew their conversation was recording.” The recorded message followed in the next text. I listened and my heart fell.
The voicemail was from the business person I had dealt with earlier that day. My instincts were right. The two unusual comments were a signal of the person’s character. The message was foul, disrespectful, and lacking in integrity.
It was directed at me, a person they never have met. The dialog was making fun of me but in a rather nasty way. I was not personally hurt. I felt the unintended voicemail was a blessing in disguise.
However, it made me sad that an established person would find joy at the expense of someone they don’t even know. In good faith, I believed this person had integrity, yet their true colors were unknowingly exposed.
It is hard to know if someone is showing their true self. Often if we listen carefully clues are revealed. Sometimes we have to walk away from people who are toxic and pray for them from afar. Leaving behind the negative and moving forward toward the light.
Jesus can’t resist someone who moves through life with love. Having good intentions, praying through the good and the bad, and keeping a perspective of compassion for others are all ways we can strengthen the world around us.
