My goal this year was to gain better focus. During this beautiful, busy chaotic time of year, I find myself easily distracted by everything happening around me. My mind moves in every direction not to miss any excitement around the season.
Instead of punishing myself for lack of focus, I apply focus to each distraction. Each time my mind wanders I ask myself why I am thinking about this particular issue.
No matter how small or large the issue, I pray for clarity and opportunity to move forward. I give thanks to Jesus for a solution before a solution is provided.
Within seconds, my mind goes back to its original focus. Letting go of my distraction while giving it to Jesus through prayer.
I don’t think I have made it through one 30-minute Daily Audio Bible without losing focus. This is something I choose to listen to every day and it is a priority in my life. I learn something new each day and I enjoy the material. None of that stops me from losing focus.
I can either get discouraged regarding my lack of focus or I can address the distraction and get back on track. Achieving complete focus is the goal, until then I will pray my way back to refocus on what is most important.
Instead of blaming myself for being off-focus, I choose to allow my imperfections. Directing those issues back to Jesus. For me, it is important to be aware of the distraction, address it, and circle back to my original focus.
As we move through the holiday season and new year we likely will encounter many distractions. Realizing we are distracted is a great first step to finding our focus.
