It is not uncommon to spend time, money, and energy on having the right things. The dinner needs to be right, the house needs to look a certain way, and the yard must look manicured. If we are going out with people, we need to choose the right location and restaurant. When going out socially, the desire is strong to have the right outfit by the right designer. All of this often comes with a great deal of stress, worry, and expense.
I like my house to look nice, serve a delicious meal, and look my best. But for me, I can meet those needs without disrupting my normal routine. I attempt to keep myself, the house, and yard presentable. If disorder occurs during the day or evening, I address the mess before I go to bed. Not because I am obsessive, but because I don’t want to wake up to a mess and disrupt the following day.
We all have routines that we follow. I follow this routine so that I don’t have to worry about things being right or the right things. I choose not to worry or be stressed. The reason I can rid myself of stress and worry is that I trust that these things will be addressed.
People can desire and worry about things, but when you have Jesus, everything you have will be the right things. He knows our purpose, our needs, and our wants. As we put love into our everyday decisions and actions, peace becomes a constant in our lives. The things we have become less important as the things we do become a priority.
I enjoy nice things, but I don’t need them; I can appreciate luxury without having to own it. When I focus on Jesus, I find that my things are right. The struggles still are present, but I move through them with inner peace. When I find myself wrapped up in things, I step back, pray, and get out of Jesus’ way.
