What am I building as I move through each day? What foundation am I creating, and how strong is my base? Are my actions jeopardizing the foundation I am building?
Every day, I strive to live in the moment. I focus on the present, prioritizing anything that must be accomplished. Understanding that I want to be flexible in the moment to serve. Carefully managing my time, allowing myself to act on opportunities when they are presented. All while privately being prayerful, thankful, and grateful throughout my day.
Daily, I determine how I can best build the foundation of my life. For me, that choice is surrendering to Jesus. That means giving up control. Not just sometimes, but all the time. It might mean doing things that I don’t understand or that I may not desire to do, but I stay on path so long as I feel peace.
Once my foundation is set, I feel inner peace within my mind, body, and spirit. When worry and stress arise, I know I am off path. Through prayer, I surrender again and give back control.
Our actions play a huge role in our success. If I have not completed my tasks, it is hard to break free and serve. Jesus will give us the opportunity to serve; he will open the doors if we’re listening. However, if we are stressed and worried because we haven’t completed our responsibilities, it isn’t easy to be open to opportunities that arise.
Having a long list of must-dos makes me very inflexible. Completing my responsibilities each day allows flexibility for Jesus moments—a beautifully orchestrated chain of events that clears my schedule to serve.
Everyone makes their own decision on how to build the foundation of their life. My children know my foundation, but it is their will and decision as to how they build the foundation for their lives. We can’t force someone to conform to our foundation, but we can lead by example.
I ask myself, what am I doing today to help build my foundation?
