My immediate go-to is prayer. The first person I ask for help is Jesus. In all my decisions, I first seek his wisdom.
I ask him to guide me through accomplishing the task. What is it that I should do first? What is the most effective and efficient way to accomplish the task? Am I to move forward with this opportunity?
My decisions are much more difficult when I forget to include Jesus. I find myself wavering with no path illuminated. When I include prayer in my decisions, opportunities shine brightly and move me down my intended path.
My latest decision was regarding a car. I always have my eyes open to opportunities when the data indicates it might be time for a change. There was no indication that the cars needed to be switched out, but the year and mileage suggested otherwise.
Some time ago I had commented that I would be very interested in purchasing a specific car if the timing was ever right for both parties. Shortly after, I found myself in a situation where I needed to put significant money into both cars that my daughters drive. I prayed, “Jesus, if you don’t want me to repair these automobiles, please don’t let this repair shop have the time or capability to make the repairs.”
The shop quickly repaired one car and over the next few days repaired the second. A few months later, I received a call indicating the car I was looking to purchase might become available. I moved to prayer, “OKAY Jesus, I just spent some serious money on our cars; show me what you want me to do with this opportunity.” The concern was now off my plate.
For months, nothing transpired regarding the car. Then I received a call saying the time was right for the seller. I was interested and asked for some information. Immediately I prayed, asking Jesus to show me how to proceed.
The odd thing is, no information crossed my path the following day regarding the car. In hindsight, by the grace of God, I realized the seller was debating whether it was the right decision to sell the car.
The next morning, I prayed to Jesus, “If it isn’t the right time for me to purchase this car, please prevent it from happening.” Moments later, I received a text from the seller indicating the car was no longer available. I smiled, said thank you, Jesus, and texted the seller that it was the right decision for me also.
When I include Jesus in my life, he is there to help me through all life’s ups and downs.
Help is here; I need to slow down, pray, and listen for the path Jesus wants me to follow.
