What is our understanding if we don’t put it into action?
Speaker Chris Caine spoke about a time when an atheist was invited to address a group of church leaders. The question to the atheist was, “Why don’t you believe?” The answer, paraphrased, was that most of those who go to church don’t act as they believe either.
It is about our actions.
What we do, how we treat people, the choices we make, in public and when no one is watching, indicate our true selves. We might not know Jesus, but he knows us. If we live and treat others with love, compassion, and understanding, he knows our heart. He knows when our intentions are rooted in love.
I have heard Dr. Issam Nemeh speak on people who claim to be atheists, regarding receiving healings through Jesus. He has found that it is not as much about those who claim to be atheists as it is about their actions. Those who call themselves atheists and live with love tend to receive healings quickly. Jesus sees the love and acts accordingly.
Moving what we understand to be the right thing to do into action in our daily lives is imperative. Wanting to do the right thing is a good first step. However, it is essential to put that into action.
It is not okay to stop at talking about doing the right thing; we must live by putting our words into action. As we allow ourselves to think from a perspective of love and compassion, it becomes easier to move into action.
It is not our job to change someone else. We are only responsible for our actions. However, people do respond to our actions. When we live with love and compassion, people notice. They notice we are moving from understanding to action.
