Making A Difference. Blog #181.

There is something about the July 4th holiday that inspires me to think about our freedom and how grateful I am to those individuals who have made a difference in this world.  I started to reflect on how simple yet powerful it is to make a positive impact on those around us.

The words of Mother Teresa have always inspired me to realize that all of our actions matter.  “I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples.”

I find that people who send messages of hope make a difference in this world.  Hope opens the opportunity to believe and anticipate good over evil.  Messages of hope can be as simple as sharing positive perspectives, particularly in times of darkness.

People who have the faith to embrace joy are making a difference in this world.  Anxiety, stress, and worry are waiting to suck us into a downward spin.  Faith and hope help us find the opportunity among the strong forces of evil.  Faith and hope present opportunities to embrace joy.

I have been reminded how important encouragement is to the growth of our total being.  Words of encouragement and acts of kindness open the door to gain confidence and give us hope.

We make a difference in people’s lives when we give heartfelt encouragement.  A small amount of encouragement can change a person’s life.  A moment of encouragement can lift one up just as unnecessary criticism can instantly paralyze one’s actions.

As we serve others we make a difference in people’s lives.  Not only are we blessing those we serve but others will notice and emulate our actions.  Simply think in terms of what would make the person’s life a bit easier or what might make them smile.  When we take the time to notice those around us opportunities to serve blossom.

The secret sauce for making a difference is love.  As we live life loving others, it becomes contagious.

This week a friend posted this quote by Toby Mac, “Jesus is more concerned with where you are going not where you have been.”  Hope, joy, encouragement, service, and love all lead to opportunities to make a difference in the lives of those around you.  Be a blessing in people’s lives.
