A new year allows us all a new beginning. A time when we can reevaluate what is important to us and how we are doing regarding those areas.
It provides a reason to check on how we conduct our everyday lives. Seeing if we are living out what we consider important. An opportunity to stop and look at how we are spending our time, how we are treating others, and how we are moving forward with our priorities.
Evaluating how I am spending my time is a necessary first step. Am I spending time doing things that will support my priorities?
Sometimes I feel like I am doing nothing productive yet achieving all my priorities. Other times I am able to trick myself into thinking what I am doing is important and yet my actions are not at all aligned with my priorities. How am I spending my time and how can I better utilize that 24 hours to facilitate what is important in my life?
I find it helpful to take a moment to self-evaluate how I treat others. Normally I am aware of my mistakes at the moment. To the best of my ability, I change my delivery immediately. However, I also like to think in broad terms, Am I living my life with love? Am I able to think in terms of compassion for others more this year than the prior year? Is my patience, tolerance, compassion, and love growing in the right direction?
The new year is a natural time to reevaluate our priorities. Our lives change year to year and as we grow our priorities may change also. For me, faith is my first priority. As the new year begins I like to think about how my actions have reinforced my priorities of faith and family.
We have 24 hours in a day. Have I spent my waking hours supporting my priorities? Am I devoting time to my faith and family? Have I treated others with compassion and love? Are my actions aligned with my priorities? If I don’t like my answers, I pray for guidance. It is time for a new beginning.
Happy New Year!
